The United Nations team in Bosnia and Herzegovina in Sarajevo on 28 September 2018 for the first time has presented awards for the journalistic contribution to information on the Sustainable Development Goals in Bosnia and Herzegovina and their promotion during 2017.
The contest included 63 journalists from all over Bosnia and Herzegovina who published over 121 articles through different media formats, on the subjects of promotion of inclusion, non-discrimination, non-violence, respect for diversity, environmental conservation and climate change prevention. These works shed a light on the problems of the modern society, while also pointing out and providing solutions in the light of Sustainable Development Goals/2030 Agenda.
The professional jury consisting of the members of the media community and organizations/institutions included in the implementation of the UN projects has together with the UN representatives chosen the best features from each category. During the selection of the best works, the jury has focused on the following criteria: the subject theme and the connection to the Sustainable Development Goals, the ways in which facts and information are presented, analytical approach, writing style, etc.
The awards ceremony commenced with the speech by the UN Resident Coordinator in Bosnia and Herzegovina Sezin Sinanoglu who was joined afterwards by Geeta Narayan, a UNICEF Representative, and a UNFPA Representative Doina Bologa.
The Global Analitika’s team is extremely honored to have been given an award by the United Nations in Bosnia and Herzegovina for the journalistic contribution to information dissemination in 2017th, to the protection and promotion of the rights and interests of forcibly displaced persons in Bosnia and Herzegovina, returnees, refugees, migrants, asylum seekers, and stateless people, for the article “Refugee children are an especially vulnerable group – they need our help”.
The awarded article by Global Analitika came to existence as a result of months of research on the respect for the rights of children and on migrant children, with the focus on unaccompanied children on the Western Balkans migrant route. The research was presented by Global Analitika at a conference in Stockholm in December 2016 which was organized by the Central European Initiative (CEI), and the Council of the Baltic Sea States (CBSS), and it represents the contribution of Global Analitika to the promotion of good practice in the protection of unaccompanied children, and finding solutions for children, families, societies, and states.
It was pointed out in the last part of the UN awards ceremony that the authors of the submitted works can be proud of themselves since their work has made an impact on the promotion of the rights of children, and of a better life for children in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
